This is a quick-reference guide for wheel and tire combos on the second-generation 2022+ Toyota GR86 (ZN8) and Subaru BRZ (ZD8) platform. The second generation brings significant improvements including 50% increase in torsional rigidity, a displacement bump to 2.4L for the FA24 engine producing 228 hp, and a 10mm wider rear track for improved stability and handling precision. For the 2013-2020 first-generation FT86 platform see the ZC6/ZN6 FT86 cheatsheet.

For detailed wheel fitment information including brake clearance and specific wheel models, see the ZN8 Toyota GR86 Wheel Guide or ZD8 Subaru BRZ Wheel Guide. For tire diameter tolerance and load rating details, see the 2nd Generation FT86 Tire Guide.

Main OEM Considerations

Coilover Requirement for Wide Wheels: The front MacPherson strut features a conical spring on a lower spring perch that sits directly adjacent to the inner wheel lip. Wheels 9.0J and wider with higher than about ET40 offset will physically contact this spring perch on stock suspension. Aftermarket coilovers utilize smaller diameter linear springs (60-62mm ID vs 85-100mm+ OEM), providing 15-20mm additional inboard clearance.

Rear Bumper Tab Modification: The chassis features a metal flange where the rear bumper meets the quarter panel. When running 255mm+ tires on offsets of +40 and lower, the tire shoulder will impact this tab under heavy suspension compression, cutting grooves into the sidewall. This requires trimming the protruding metal flange flush and relocating the bumper attachment point.

Front Fender Liner Clearance: The factory 215/40R18 measures 24.7” diameter. Maintain ±3% variance (24.0” to 25.4”) to avoid rubbing. Oversized diameters like 245/40R18 or 255/40R18 (25.7” to 26.0”) will rub the front liner vents constantly. Stick to properly sized alternatives like 245/35R18 or 255/35R18.

Hub Centric Rings: Most aftermarket 5x100 wheels have 73.1mm center bores. The ZN8/ZD8 requires 56.1mm hub centering. Use hub centric rings (73.1mm OD to 56.1mm ID). Aluminum rings are strongly recommended over plastic for track use, as brake heat can deform plastic rings.

Gen 1 vs Gen 2 Track Width: TL;DR - Gen 2 requires more conservative fitment. The rear track width increased by 10mm total (5mm per side) on Gen 2. Gen 1 fitment data is not directly transferable. Aggressive Gen 1 setups will poke 5mm further on Gen 2 and may require additional camber or fender rolling.
